Saints Triumph Again

Saints started the game very strongly and quickly established a healthy lead, scoring three times before the Flyers had really got themselves organised. The signs were ominous but then, with Mary coming on and Rhian switching back to the midfield, the girls competed much better and started to put the Saints defence under a bit of pressure, resulting in a strong shot from Daisy, a brilliant run and shot from Maddie and then a well worked chance going begging in front of an open goal with their keeper stranded! Flyers finished the half 4-0 down but making much more of a game of it.
Mary switched to goalkeeper in the 2nd half and with Hannah and Lauren containing the Saints twin strike force with some resolute defending, Molly, Rhian, Alice and Alana combined really well with Kitty up front creating a number of chances that just needed a strikers final touch. It arrived in the shape of Daisy who finally pulled a goal back, a goal well deserved by the whole team.
The final score was 1-7, the same as September but there were periods of the game where the contest was very even. With a bit more composure in defence and sharp shooting in front of goal, the score could have been much closer. Maybe next year!
