Winchester Tournament

Posted by Mark Hickson on 4 September 2017

Despite the rain the Winchester tournament went ahead yesterday to great success! The early bird crew arrived at 7am to get everything ready and after some Chuckle Brothers inspired tent set up the teams started to arrive but sadly so did the rain. Then around 9:30 with Adee on the loud speaker, the refs ready to blow their whistles and Allan flipping burgers the football got underway.

The morning session had the Under 10s, 12s, 13s and 16s competing, with a Winchester team in all age groups. The results of the morning session were:

Under 13s Winchester won with Worthies as runners up

Under 16s Muderford won with Alderbury as runners up

Under 12 Portsmouth Younited won with Merly as runners up

Under 10s Sholing won with Winchester as runners up.

The afternoon saw the weather get worse but the quality of football stay just as good! With Tony and Allan going to the First teams FA cup match Nigel was now on bacon frying duty but he didn't mind as he was the only one keeping warm. John kept Adee in check with his water collecting duties and new club secretary Peter finally got a break after his successful initiation into the Flyers family via the making of many cups of coffee.

The afternoon results were:

Under 14s Saints won with Flyers as runners up

Under 11s Portsmouth Younited won with Andover runners up

Under 15s Winchester won with Warsash as runners up.

A huge thankyou goes out to everyone who helped out yesterday and made the tournament a success. Thankyou to all the committee for your tireless work not only yesterday but in the lead up to the tournament to make it all happen. Thankyou to all the referees who braved the wet and cold and to Kat for organising them all. And lastly a thankyou to all the team managers who got all the girls playing football.

Lastly yesterday saw the arrival of two new Winchester teams! Steve took charge of his Under 16 team for the first time as did Andrea with her Under 11s team with the help of first team player Francesca.
