More than 250,000 females play the game regularly in England, making it the fourth most participated-in team sport after men’s football, rugby and cricket. At the current rate of growth, the FA expect it to have risen to second in the table by 2018.

The game has never been played to such a high standard or with a talent as deep. From school level, to grass roots, to academy and professional the women's game covers a vast amount of ability and interest from young girls to get involved is continually growing due to this. There is now inspiration for young players as they can see the professionals in action, to see what can be done, to dream that it might be them. And since the Women’s Super League came into being in 2012, that is exactly what the country’s leading female players are: professional.
