Bognor’s Abbie Green signs for Winchester

Bognor’s Abbie Green signs for Winchester

Hayley Newman

Green arrives as Pearmine’s third summer signing.

Former Portsmouth in the Community graduate Abbie Green is now a Winchester City Flyers player.

The 17-year-old spent her first season in senior football representing Bognor Regis in the London & South East Regional Division One South.

A recognised left back, Green made 12 appearances for the Rockettes, who finished third in a competitive division.

Before her time at Bognor, the teenager spent four years at PitC developing within their youth ranks.

Green was delighted to put pen to paper and sign for Winchester this season, saying: “It feels really good to be a Flyer.

“When I signed, I was very proud, and I told all my friends and family because it gives me pride to say that I am now a Flyer.

“I was looking for a good tier 5 club, and I saw that Winchester finished in a really good position last year.

“I went to the trial; it was very well thought out, and everyone was really welcoming, and the level of football was really high, so I knew that this was a place where I could grow and develop.”

Despite being one of the youngest members of the squad, Green has settled into life at Winchester well.

She said: “I have enjoyed getting to know my new teammates and all the coaching staff; everyone here is really encouraging and fun to be around.

“I’m hoping to give a lot of energy and passion because I love the game and when I am on the pitch I try to give 100% in every performance.”
