I know this role will push me as a player as well, and I’m looking forward to leading the team this season.

Winchester City Flyers are delighted to announce Emma Whitlock as the new First Team captain.

The experienced midfielder joined the Flyers in August 2024 and has made 21 appearances so far.

Whitlock has featured for both Southampton sides before linking up with Emma Pearmine’s Winchester team, bringing calm composure on the ball in the middle of the park where she has often dictated play.

The new skipper was delighted with the news and looks at it as another way for her to develop as a player.

Whitlock said: “I’m really pleased to be given the role.

“I’ve been lucky to play under some great captains in the past and I’ve learnt a lot from them, so to be now trusted with that responsibility myself means a lot.

“I know this role will push me as a player as well, and I’m looking forward to leading the team this season.

“I’ll bring my experience, good communication, and my commitment to the team.

“I want to make sure everyone feels supported, especially the younger players who are stepping up this season.

“We’ve got some exciting talent coming through, and I’ll do everything I can to help them settle in and develop.

“I’ll also be working closely with the leadership team (Charlie, Lydia and Ellie) to make sure we’re getting the best out of everyone within the group.

“For me, it’s about keeping standards high and making sure we’re pushing in the same direction.

Whitlock is entering her second season with the Flyers, and the Southern Region Premier Division looks set to be tougher than ever.

Looking ahead to the season, she said: “I’m really excited. We’ve got a great mix of players this year - teammates I’ve played alongside before, the squad from last season, and some new faces, including a few I’ve played with previously at different clubs.

“That gives me confidence in what we can achieve as a team this season.

“The squad has real ambition to push on and compete for the league, and I’m looking forward to helping lead the team, driving standards each week to give ourselves the best chance at achieving that.”
