Former Southampton Women's player heads up the M3 to join the Flyers

Winchester City Flyers are delighted to announce the signing of Izzy Crooks from Southampton Women’s.

After five and a half years in the British Army, where she also played regularly for the Army FA and United Services Team, she has switched from military life to civvy street.

For the last two seasons, Crooks has played her club football at Southampton Women’s FC, making 17 appearances.

The midfielder also netted five goals last season in the Southern Region for the Sirens and scored the only goal for her side in their 3-1 defeat to Winchester at the Charters Community Stadium in November 2025.

Crooks is now settling into life as a civilian and a Flyer as she looks towards a fresh start in her footballing career.

She said: “I’m excited to be here and looking forward to getting started.

“It’s a great opportunity for a fresh start, and I’m excited to see what the season brings.

“I was looking for a fresh start after leaving the Army, where I could continue playing at a good level, challenge myself and enjoy my football. Winchester felt like a good fit.

“I’ve really enjoyed it so far. It’s a friendly group with lots of talent, and everyone has made me feel welcome.”

Crooks has described herself as a “hard-working” player and is raring to get going.

She said: “I like to be positive and creative on the pitch, create chances for the team and hopefully score some goals along the way.

“Personally, I want to settle into the team, keep improving and use the experience I’ve gained from playing at Army, UKAF and club level to contribute as much as I can.

“Most importantly, I want us to have a successful season and push for that number one spot at the top of the table.”
