Winchester City Flyers hit the road for the first time this season, where former FA Women’s National League side Chesham United await them.

Emma Pearmine’s side come into the game in high spirits after huge back-to-back wins over Beaconsfield Town and Fleet Town in the league and cup.

After a disappointing opening day defeat the Flyers responded with an 8-1 win over Beaconsfield thanks to hat-tricks from Chelsie Hay and Charlie Snelling.

A week later they hosted league rivals Fleet in the Second Qualifying Round of the Women’s FA Cup.

Hay and Snelling found the scoresheet once again as the Flyers took a 2-0 lead into the break.

17-year-old Abbie Green raced away shortly after the break to make it 3-0 before Fleet pulled a goal back.

Any signs of a comeback were put to bed as Winchester exercised their dominance as the subs on the bench showed their worth.

Summer signing Freya Twigg set up Annie Northwood for her first of the game before Green turned provider for Sian Wylie to bag her first of the season.

Northwood wrapped up her own hat-trick, scoring twice within six minutes as the game drew to a close and the Flyers lined up an away trip to Mangotsfield Town in the next round.

Sunday’s opponents started life at Tier 5 with a huge 4-0 loss to Southampton Women’s on the opening day of the season.

Similar to Winchester, they responded well the following week, beating Woodley United 3-2 at home.

Molly Peters put Chesham ahead twice before Woodley pegged them back through Gergana Kehayova and then Ella Traynor Smith.

The three points were sealed in the 81st minute thanks to substitute Henrietta Cunnison.

Last week it was déjà vu for Chesham and Woodley as they met once again this time in the FA Cup at Bulmershe Pavilion.

This time it wasn’t as close as the Generals stormed to a 4-0 lead thanks to a brace for Lily Peterson and goals from Mehak Khanna and Amina Hanif.

Woodley’s Caitlin Kemp scored from the penalty spot, but it was merely a consolation goal as Chesham progressed to the next round of the cup.

Winchester and Chesham have played each other since 2018.

That season saw United win promotion to the National League as they went 16 games unbeaten in the league.

Things have changed since that season, though, but this Sunday is expected to be a tough encounter for the Flyers, who look to continue building on their recent results.
