The Flyers start the season at home against a tough Portchester outfit

Winchester City Flyers kick-start the 2026/27 Southern Region Premier Division campaign off at home against AFC Portchester.

Last season, the Flyers had their best-ever season as they finished second, one point behind the champions Wycombe Wanderers.

Sunday's opposition, Portchester, finished third in what was a very competitive Southern Region season; however, they did beat Wycombe in the final of the League Cup to deny them the league and cup double.

Mark Duggan's side proved a tough outfit for many teams, and Winchester are searching for their first win against the Creeksiders.

They have retained much of their squad from last season and then have added firepower and experience with their summer signings.

Molly Barron-Clark, Jade Berrows, Holly Humphries and Jo Nowak-Allum are among the new recruits lining up for Portchester this season.

The Tangerines will be one of several sides looking to win promotion to the FA Women's National League this season.

Their confidence will be high after a good pre-season that saw them go unbeaten in all of their fixtures, including a 4-3 win over AFC Bournemouth under-21s at the Cherries' training ground.

Emma Pearmine's side will also take confidence into the new season after winning all six of their pre-season friendlies.

Five new faces have arrived at the Charters with the bulk of last season's squad remaining at the club, including last season's top goalscorer Chelsie Hay - she scored 39 goals in all competitions.

Coming into the club are Freya Twigg, Abbie Green, Chloe Tucker, Cesca Thornton and Izzy Crooks.

Twigg joined from Andover New Street and got off to a flyer, scoring seven goals during pre-season and will compete alongside Hay up top.

Defensive additions were made with the signings of Green and Tucker while Thornton and Crooks provide options to Pearmine in the midfield while Kayleigh Tonks recovers from her ACL injury.
