After a disappointing start to the season, Winchester City Flyers will be looking to pick up their first competitive win of the campaign when Beaconsfield Town come to town on Sunday.

The Flyers lost 3-1 to promotion chasing AFC Portchester.

With less than 30 minutes on the clock, Portchester had put themselves 3-0 up, and despite Laura Vokes scoring a stunning strike inside that opening half hour, it wasn't enough for Winchester to take any points.

Sunday's opponents come into the game off the back of a 2-2 draw with Woodley United.

It's Beaconsfield's second season in the Southern Region Premier Division after finishing seventh in the league last term.

Town had to come from behind against Woodley to rescue a point.

The Rams found themselves 2-0 down at half-time with things going from bad to worse when Abbie Reid saw red at the start of the second-half.

However, despite playing with a player short, Beaconsfield were resilient, and Zuzanna Wojtaszewska scored the goal to get them back into the game before Amelia Kimble slotted home a 96th minute penalty to ensure Town had a share of the points.

Sunday's encounter will just be the fourth meeting between the two sides, with Winchester winning two of the three matches.

The last meeting saw Beaconsfield pick up a pivotal point which had a big impact on the 2025/26 title race.

Chelsie Hay gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead, but Town hit back with two quick goals to lead at the break.

Winchester kept trying in the second-half and were eventually rewarded with an equaliser from Hay.

Emma Pearmine will be looking for a response from her side against Town as she believed the performance against Portchester was a one-off.

She said: "I think it's a sole game, to be honest. It's just one of those games where they didn't turn up, and as frustrating as it is, I don't think it's going to be a pattern.

"The talent is out there.

"We just need to get our heads together, look at bits from the game (against Portchester) that we can improve upon, that we can actually action against and then go from there."
