After a dramatic penalty shootout win in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, Winchester City Flyers return to league action with a home game.
Newly promoted Fleet Town are the latest side to visit the Charters Community Stadium in the Southern Region Premier Division.
Fleet have had a mixed affair so far with two defeats and one win in their opening three games.
Their first two games of the season saw them concede 15 goals against Southampton Women’s and Wycombe Wanderers on home soil.
Southampton ran out 4-2 winners over Town after storming to a 3-0 lead, Dominique Lewis and Avery Tolley scored the goals for the hosts.
A week later Fleet came unstuck against a ruthless Wycombe side gunning for the league title this season.
Wanderers put 11 past the Blues and Zoe Luff scored a consolation goal for the Hampshire side.
In their third league outing Fleet won with a last minute goal over Sholing at the Mortgage Decisions Stadium.
Town led Sholing 2-1 at half-time before the Southampton base side scored in the 93rd minute however, the Blues quickly raced down the other end to score and take all three points.
After the euphoria of their first win Town were knocked out of the FA Cup last Sunday with a 6-1 defeat to Farnham Town from the league below.
For Winchester they come in on the back of two wins in all competitions.
They had to overcome league rivals Sholing’s comeback attempts after they draw level twice to take the game to penalties.
Libby Wilkinson and Annie Northwood saw their goals cancelled out each time before goalkeeper Lauren Sayler became the hero on her debut.
The American-born keeper saved three penalties and scored one of her own to tee up another home tie this time against Yeovil Town.
The last meeting between the two sides came in 2017 in the North Hampshire DFA Cup which saw the Flyers run out 4-2 winners while the last league meeting was in February 2016 and Fleet bagged a 3-2 win.
A win for either side would be beneficial early on in a tough league.
