On Sunday, Winchester City Flyers welcome Reading to the Charters Community Stadium for only the second time in the two clubs’ histories.

Two years ago, this fixture was unheard of, but due to events happening off the pitch, the Royals have found themselves adjusting to life in the Southern Region Premier Division.

Former Maidenhead United manager Ed Jackson is the man in charge, looking to bring some better times for Reading.

So far, the Berkshire side are faring better than last season with three wins from their four league outings.

Wins over Badshot Lea, Southampton Women and Sholing see the Royals sitting seventh in the table; however, they have games in hand on everyone in the table.

They come into the game with a strong win over Kidlington Youth in the League Cup.

Top goal scorer Natalie Cowell netted four in the 11-1 win for Reading to book their place in the third round of the cup.

Before that, they had beaten Sholing 2-1 in the league, Cowell and Keren Banduka bagging the crucial goals to seal the win.

Winchester head into the game off the back of a comeback win over Southampton Women’s.

Izzy Crooks put Southampton ahead in the first-half where the Flyers struggled to get going.

Things changed in the second-half as Lydia Moulding, Chelsie Hay and Shayne Prasad hit the back of the net to secure a first-ever win against the former FA Women’s National League side.

In the last meeting between the two sides, it was one to forget for Sunday’s visitors.

For the Flyers, it was a perfect performance where everything seemed to go right in an 8-0 home win.

Libby Wilkinson and Annie Northwood hit braces for Winchester, who earned a league double over the former Women’s Super League side.

The likelihood of a repeat of the scoreline is likely limited with only three players remaining in the Reading squad this season after a huge summer overhaul.

Depending on results from across the league, Winchester could jump up to as high as second place, especially with AFC Portchester in Women’s FA Cup action and Beaconsfield Town not playing.

Reserves and Reds in action

The Flyers Reserves have picked up momentum in recent weeks with back-to-back wins in the league and cup.

Kim Ward scored her sixth senior goal in the Invitation Cup against Alton as the Reserves booked their place in the quarter-finals.

On Sunday, they hit the road to face bottom of the table AFC Stoneham Development.

Alton last week played the Reserves, but this week they head to King George V, Playing Fields, to take on the Flyers Reds.

The Reds have been in fine form, currently second in the league, and have won their last two games, scoring eight goals in the process.

They, alongside the Reserves, will be hoping to make it three consecutive wins.
