Winchester City Flyers ran out 4-1 winners over Badshot Lea in the Southern Region Premier Division on Sunday, earning them their first points of the season.
The captain Emma Whitlock opened the scoring early on, but the Flyers would have to wait until the 57th minute for debutant Scarlett Kirby to double the lead.
Badshot pulled one back through Gemma Luke, but it wasn’t enough as Charlie Snelling and Libby Wilkinson netted to wrap up the win.
A gloomy afternoon saw Winchester host Badshot at the Charters Community Stadium with both sides in search of their first points of the season.
Emma Pearmine had made three changes to her matchday squad from the AFC Portchester defeat, which saw Sophie Byway make her full debut, and Kirby started on the bench for her own.
The Flyers started strong and looked positive from the onset as Kayleigh Tonks shot wide before Charlie Snelling also missed the target.
With six minutes played, striker Annie Northwood saw her rebounded effort fly over the crossbar from inside the six-yard box.
Three minutes later, the skipper broke the deadlock.
Whitlock controlled the ball in space from 30-yards out to strike the ball into the top corner of the net for the opener and only her second Winchester goal.
It was pretty much one-way traffic in the first-half.
Snelling saw a long-range effort saved before Northwood was unable to beat the Badshot goalkeeper in a one-on-one.
Kirby came off the bench and got straight into the action as Tonks and Snelling saw a few more shots well blocked by the Badshot defence.
Laura da Silva had the best chance before the break but was denied as the keeper pushed the ball over the bar.
Just one goal separated the sides at the break as Badshot held firm to keep the Flyers at bay.
Badshot’s resolve lasted until the 57th minute when 16-year-old on-loan forward Kirby scored from a tight angle after da Silva struck the post.
Four minutes later, the visitors pulled one back from a looping Luke free-kick that sailed over Parker into the far corner.
Badshot galvanised from the goal, but they couldn’t find another breakthrough, and soon enough the Flyers turned the tide.
Wilkinson curled a corner into the box where Snelling rose to meet the ball, heading in for her first goal of the season.
Tonks was running the show, covering every inch of the Winchester pitch.
She first stepped up a cross for Northwood and Sian Wylie, but neither could get on the end of the delivery before she was soon tracking back to defend.
As the clock struck 90, last season’s goal scorer Wilkinson fired in the fourth of the game and her second of the season.
At full-time, Winchester secured a well-deserved 4-1 win and their first three points of the season.
