Annie Northwood’s second-half hat-trick helped to guide Winchester City Flyers in the Third Qualifying Round of the Women’s FA Cup with a 7-1 win over Fleet Town.

Chelsie Hay and Charlie Snelling opened the scoring in the first-half before Abbie Green bagged her first goal for the club after the break.

Fleet pulled one back, but it wasn’t enough as Sian Wylie scored and Northwood netted three to put the Flyers into the next round.

Emma Pearmine went strong with her team selection and made just two changes from the 8-1 win over Beaconsfield Town.

There was a starting debut for Isabella Carugati while Lauren Sayler got the nod to start in goal for the cup tie.

Emily Wernham was denied an early chance to shoot thanks to some good defending by the visitors, but in the 16th minute the Flyers broke the deadlock.

Midfielder Snelling brought down a cross inside the penalty area, and her shot deflected into the goal, having deceived the Fleet goalkeeper.

The Fleet keeper was the far busier of the two as she denied Hay twice within five minutes, pulling off two good saves.

Just before the half-hour mark though, Hay did get her goal.

Winger Wernham controlled the ball well before driving past the fullback into the box to cut the ball back for Hay to fire in and double Winchester’s lead.

More attacking opportunities were created by the Flyers but the Fleet keeper kept them out when the home side weren’t being caught offside.

It took six minutes into the second-half for a third goal to be found.

Left-back Green raced away from the Fleet defenders; she drew the keeper off her line to then slot the ball low and into the back of the net for her first goal.

Four minutes later and Town pulled a goal back as they caught Winchester sleeping.

Substitute Freya Twigg had two chances in the space of two minutes but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Another substitute, Northwood, restored the three-goal cushion after Twigg managed to keep the ball in play and unselfishly squared the ball to the striker for the finish.

Soon after, Wylie added her name to the scoresheet from the bench as she finished inside the box from another great run by Green.

As the game headed towards the final whistle, Northwood scored two more goals to wrap up a clinical victory.

In the 85th minute, she controlled a long ball over the top before grounding the keeper and slotting into an empty net.

Six minutes later her hat-trick was complete as she once again bested the keeper and finished for the Flyers’ seventh goal of the game.

The final whistle saw Winchester progress into the Third Qualifying Round of the Women’s FA Cup for the fifth year running.
