Chelsie Hay and Charlie Snelling both netted hat-tricks as Winchester City Flyers won 8-1 at the Charters Community Stadium against Beaconsfield Town.

The first-half saw Hay score four in the first-half despite Alixandra Todd’s equaliser from a freekick.

Snelling got in on the action after the break, scoring her own hat-trick, and Libby Wilkinson bagged the eighth with a signature freekick finish.

Emma Pearmine’s side saw three changes to the starting line-up with a couple of players unavailable, meaning Abbie Green, Lydia Moulding and Freya Twigg got their starts of the season.

Beaconsfield flew out of the traps from kick-off.

They attacked down the right wing, forcing Charlie Snelling to put in a great challenge to deny the cross and give the Rams a corner inside the first minute.

Hay had the first shot of the game when she got on the ball in space - the Rams keeper off her line – however, the Flyers striker’s effort couldn’t find the back of the net.

There was a chance for Emma Nolan; however, pressure from Abbie Green did enough to keep her out before the deadlock was broken.

With 13 minutes played, striker Hay bagged the opener Hay as she was the quickest to the ball in the box and slotted it home off the post.

Three minutes later, Beaconsfield were awarded a dangerous freekick on the edge of the box.

Todd struck the ball across goal and in for a great finish and a quick equaliser.

Two chances came for Twigg; the first she tried to cross, but there were no red shirts in the middle before she found the side netting.

Winchester soon found their stride in the match after a slow start as they repeatedly overturned possession only to be wasteful in the final third, but that soon changed.

Youngster Green had been having a bright start, flew down the wing and delivered a great cross for Hay, who manoeuvred herself in front of the goalkeeper and flicked the ball in for her second.

In the 34th, Emily Wernham was fouled just inside the Beaconsfield box with the referee pointing straight at the spot.

Only one player was taking the penalty, and Hay made sure to bury the spot kick to wrap up her first hat-trick.

A couple of minutes later Hay was adding a fourth as she converted a lovely through ball from Emma Whitlock.

Either side of half-time, Snelling had chances to get her name on the scoresheet but lacked the power to beat Audrey Wakefield.

The vice-captain did finally grab her goal in the 63rd minute as Vokes’ corner fell into her path in the six-yard box, and she converted the chance.

Twigg went close, forcing Wakefield into a great save before substitute Wilkinson scored a stunning volley, only for it to be written off for offside.

Into the final 10 minutes of the game, the Flyers were not finished.

Snelling fired in two stunning strikes in two minutes for her second and third of the game.

With the last kick of the game, Wilkinson was rewarded as she powered home a freekick from 30-yards out.

The final whistle blew straight after the goal and with it a clinical display from the Flyers as they picked up their first three points of the season.

Next up, Winchester host league rivals Fleet Town in the Second Qualifying Round of the Women’s FA Cup.
