Winchester City Flyers scored nine goals against Sholing in two games: the SDFA Cup and the Southern Region Premier Division.

The Flyers travelled to the Boatwomen on Friday, 20th February and booked their place in the semi-finals of the SDFA Cup with a 5-0 win.

Two days later, Winchester hosted Sholing in the league and, despite a tougher game, ran out 4-0 winners, putting them back into second place.

A Charlie Snelling brace helped Winchester soar into the semi-finals of the SDFA Cup following a 5-0 win over Sholing.

Chelsie Hay got things started before Snelling added a second then goals from Laura Vokes and Kayleigh Tonks put the Flyers 4-0 up at half-time.

Snelling scored quickly after the break and the Flyers kept Sholing out to keep a deserved clean sheet.

Winchester got off to a fast start on Friday and dictated much of the tempo and the ball.

Inside eight minutes, the Flyers found themselves 1-0 up as striker Hay read the game well as she ran into the box to intercept a back pass and slotted the ball between the goalkeeper's legs to score in off the post.

The visitors continued to dominate the play, but it took until the 27th minute before the lead was doubled.

Snelling started the move from the back and linked up well with Laura da Silva, with the winger racing down the line before squaring into the box to find the run of the vice-captain to finish a great move.

With five minutes of the first-half remaining, Vokes was released down the left wing by Lydua Moulding, where she got the beat of the fullback.

The left back's initial cross was blocked, but she struck the rebound first time and got the better of the keeper despite her getting a hand to the ball.

Right on the stroke of half-time Kayleigh Tonks added a fourth as she was then to force the ball over the line after the keeper made two great saves to deny Emma Whitlock's freekick and then Hay.

Snelling was then quick to put the nail in the coffin on the night, adding a fifth just three minutes into the second-half.

The midfielder lept onto a poor touch from Sholing before drilling the ball into the bottom right-hand corner.

Sholing tried to fight back in the second-half as they turned to their bench, but they couldn't find the space to trouble Ellie Parker.

There were a plethora of chances for the Flyers to add to their goal tally; however, they were denied by some good saves by the Sholing keeper.

At the final whistle, it was 5-0 and Winchester who progressed to the SDFA Cup semi-final for the first time.

League | Flyers 4 Sholing 0

Two days later, Winchester recorded their third victory over Sholing this season, winning 4-0 at the Charters Community Stadium.

Lydia Moulding opened the scoring before Chelsie Hay doubled the lead and Kayleigh Tonks got a third all in the first-half.

It was a trickier encounter against Sholing, however, Hay sealed the win and the three points in the 69th minute.

Despite playing twice within 48 hours, Emma Pearmine made just three changes to her squad as Shayne Prasad and Lauren Sayler started, while Ella Hughes made the bench as Ellie Parker and Laura da Silva were rested.

Sholing started stronger than they had in the previous game as they had the first shots at goal; however, Sayler remained untroubled.

Winchester grew into the game as they carved out attacking opportunities and soon had a corner.

Laura Vokes curled a great corner into the box where it was met by Moulding to flick towards goal and Sholing just couldn't keep it out.

Shortly after the visitors had a flurry of attacks with three shots flying wide of Sayler's goal.

Then the Flyers made Sholing rue their missed chances by doubling their advantage.

A superb cross from Emily Wernham was met by Hay at the back post to head home her first of the afternoon.

Kayleigh Tonks scored her second goal in as many games as she burst into the box and slid the ball through the keeper's legs while also taking a whack to the face.

The Flyers did once again control much of the game but the visitors were a bit more of an attacking threat than in the previous game.

In the 69th minute, Vokes lifted the ball toward the box, where Prasad flicked it into the path of Hay on the half-volley to bag a brace.

Hughes was close to opening her account for the Flyers, as was 16-year-old Tilly Plummer, who was denied twice.

The final whistle came, and Winchester moved back into second place after Southampton Women's drew with league leaders Wycombe Wanderers.
