Winchester City Flyers are pleased to announce the dual signing of defender Sophie Byway from Oxford United under-18s.

The 16-year-old joins to bolster Winchester's defensive options and has impressed during pre-season.

Byway has spent her youth with Chelsea and Southampton FC Women's PGA teams, most recently winning the Hampshire under-16s cup with the Saints.

The youngster comes in to add height and calmness to the team, and manager Emma Pearmine was delighted to be able to bring her in.

She said: "Sophie is another brilliant young talent we’ve added to our squad.

"She is strong, composed and has an excellent understanding and confidence for her age. We can’t wait to see her in action in our back line this season."
