Preview | Flyers vs Beaconsfield Town
It’s second vs third in the league on Sunday
Winchester City Flyers welcome second place Beaconsfield Town to the Charters Community Stadium on Sunday in the Southern Region Premier Division.
Town were promoted from Division One North last season after going unbeaten in the league and winning the title by nine points.
The Buckinghamshire-based come into the game off the back of a 6-0 defeat in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup Third Round Qualifying to FA Women’s National League side Chatham.
Despite coming into the game off the back of a defeat, Beaconsfield have been having a great start to the season.
They currently sit second with three consecutive wins over Reading, AFC Portchester and Badshot Lea.
It’s a run that put to bed a bad opening day defeat to title challengers Wycombe Wanderers.
Leading the line for Town is Katie Riddington, who has scored four times in six games and is one of five different goal scorers for the Rams.
The only previous meeting for the Flyers against Beaconsfield came last season when the two sides met in the Southern Region League Cup.
Winchester ran out 5-0 winners as they progressed to the final for the first time.
Libby Wilkinson scored a brace to help the team win, while Sharna Capel-Watson, Annie Northwood and Kayleigh Tonks rounded up the score.
The Flyers are currently four games unbeaten in all competitions, including two league wins over Badshot Lea and Fleet Town.
Goals have been flowing for Winchester this season with eight different players finding the back of the net, including both strikers recent signing Chelsie Hay and Northwood.
A win for either side could cement second place for them as the season starts to really get going.
